Is there much chance of a updated version of mdadm for 11.04? I am going
to want to migrate my RAID5 to RAID6 soon, and I am thinking of just
switching to Debian, as I am not technically competent enough to install
a newer version into Ubuntu myself, and I would rather use a supported
version.

Agree, I had to manually remove postfix, and set up msmtp-mta instead.
I prefer the approach Debian takes which has "mail-transport-agent" as a
"recommends" dependency.
I don't know exactly how Debian works, but I presume it presents the
user with the option to install various MTA's or not instal
I agree it would be excellent to have a newer version of mdadm for
lucid. I note that debian has 3.0.3 in "squeeze"

Before creating the array I also tested the solution from the patch
above, and came across the same error message that rowez reported.

The creation of the md* devices in /dev at the time of package
installation does not seem to be too critical. I was able to create a
4x1TB RAID5 with mdadm under 9.10 with no issues, it seems like mdadm
will automatically create the md0 device if it does not exist when
creating a new raid.
