Is it possible to have Nautilus handle the desktop, without turning it
into an enlarged file manager?
What I mean is that is there a way for the desktop to have the ability
to have icons and such without the menu bar at the top?

This is a picture showing the background image being pushed downwards,
as well as having en empty blank spot on the second monitor (the same as
on the main monitor but just hidden under the gnome-shell bar) where the
file/edit/view/go/bookmarks/help menu is located.

On my Desktop PC I am running 11.10 x64 with a AMD Radeon HD 6950
graphics card with Gallium 0.4 on AMD Cayman drivers, and I do not get
any flicker at all.
Although, on my AMD Radeon HD mobility 4200 series card on my laptop, I
get horrible flicker while doing most things in Unity and Gnome-Shell
I too have this problem on 3 different computers. I am running Oneiric
on all 3 of them.

I too have this bug. I tried all of the previous fixes and none worked.
I am on 11.10 x64 beta 2, and I can say this problem has occurred on
both of my computers and I have tried each with jockey and with apt-get,
both achieving the same result.
My laptop is running an mobility radeon hd4250 and m
was able to solve the issue by adding a subsection to my xorg.conf file.
In the screen section I added "Virtual 3840 1080 ", which is the
combined total of both of my desktops.

I have had some luck being able to get sound out of my mic initially
after I reboot my computer, but if I open a program or do anything can
can actually utilize the mic it immediately shuts off and no matter what
I do I cannot get it to come back on.

I did that and it did not solve the isse. The issue is not with ALSA
though, I can get sound out of my mic using alsamixer, the problem I
believe is with pulseaudio. I dont think that pulseaudio is using the
right alsa mic as the mic for pulseaudio. In alsa mixer i unmuted "mic"
to hear myself. But
I have figured out this problem is with Pulseaudio. Alsamixer lets me
hear sound out of my speakers from my mic when I unmute it, and there
are times when I can actually get sound to show in the sound menu and in
skype, BUT then is shuts off and while alsamixer will still let me hear
