I receive this notice in lucid.
I believe it only occurs because 1) I have my home directory encrypted
using builtin efs wrapper and 2) sometimes checksecurity runs while I am
logged-out (and my encrypted homedir is not mounted).

I can confirm that this is no longer an issue in 8.10 - you can leave
the device password on and it will not cause any problems, nor will it
show up as a device until you enter the password. I did not test the
2.6.27 kernel in 8.04.

would connect the blackberry in mass storage mode, udev would munch cpu

I have the same issue on Fujitsu S6210 with 855GM. I was able to switch
cleanly with i855crt as mentioned in the bug linked by Seb, but the
hotkey switching produces dirty output on the VGA port.
