The problem does not seem to exist after upgrade to 9.04. Note that I
also updated BIOS to version 1001 on Asus P5K-VM board. If something
appears broken again after couple of trials, I will update the post.

to shutdown notebook, all starts normally (X dies, boot-screen progress
bar reduces), but when progress bar became empty nothing happens. I can
