This happened to me again today after an update of Kubuntu Vivid on my laptop.
At next boot, sddm would not start, and "sudo systemctl enable sddm" / "sudo
reboot" fixed it.

I also had this issue yesterday caused by the ia32-libs package provided by
this PPA.
Running nspluginwrapper manually shows that the 32-bit version of the
libxcb-shm.so.0 is missing.
Reverting to the ia32-libs package from Ubuntu repositories solved the
