I tested bamfdaemon and libbamf3-2, both version
0.5.3~bzr0+16.04.20160523-0ubuntu1, from xenial-proposed. It works for
me. Menus appear to work correctly with this version.

Removing Marco's PPA packages results in missing menus, same as before.

For what it's worth, installing the packages in Marco's PPA fixes this
issue for me.
