I have meanwhile upgraded to 12.04, and there is no need anymore for
ifdown/ifup to make dhcp succeed.
The bug has disappeared after the upgrade.

Oke I did that but no luck.
I have to add to this perhaps that before I was using pulseaudio and got
problems with it so I completely removed it and switchted to Alsa only.. at the
time no problems anymore untill a ubuntu update and then the mic was not
working...
Also sound is looping in flash
Cool this worked, I runned it and attached it!

After an update my internal mic stopped working. I tried Arecord and Skype.
Both not working.
I tried reinstalling and purging all drivers according to the Comprehensive
sound guide on Ubuntuforums but still no luck.
Pulseaudio is not installed just running Alsa drivers.

After an Wubi installed Karmic 9.10 completely updated shared on 1 hd with
windows xp I upgrade to Lucid just yesterday.
I just answered yes to all the grub updates and after this I can't boot Linux
anymore, I get a Grub prompt.

The bug occurred after upgrading to jaunty.
I'm not sure about the network-manager, it could also be the kernel, a driver
for my network card,
or perhaps the cause in the reorderings done to increase the booting speed in
jaunty.

A workaround for my problem is to add the following two lines to
/etc/rc.local boot script just before the final exit 0 line:
ifdown eth0
ifup eth0
Doing this has the commands are executed at boot up.
Still, I'd like to help in hunting this down, just leave a message here.

I have a slightly different problem with dhcp after upgrading from 8.10
to 9.04 yesterday.
After boot using the default kernel there is no wired connection to the
internet, but everything on the local network is available. (ping by name to
local machines works, but pop for email fails.)
