I confirm this bug too, on both restart / shutdown.
I need to manually shut down my laptop (a Toshiba P300-19F), by pushing for
5secs the power button.

I'm attaching a properly patched forcedeth.c file too.
I cleaned it of unnecessary parts used for older kernels (<2.6.15). It should
be ok for edgy too.

original one contains some errors.
Moreover, I'm attaching the Makefile, a little script to build and the
binary file which will work *only* for 2.6.15-27-amd64-k8 kernel.
