me. Only way to bring it back is to manually power it down.
Nope. The issue still persists for me. It's very disappointing that
this issue doesn't seem to be getting much attention.

Upon bootup of Kubuntu 8.10, there is only static (white noise) sound,
and it does not go away. Therefore, no sounds can be heard (CDs, System
Sounds, Video) over the noise. The soundcard is plugged into my
speakers correctly (I have used other versions of Linux in the past

installed (also occurs in ubuntu). Altering the volume level has no
effect. Can barely hear startup sound over the noise.
