I just installed kubuntu 18 after a long absence. I found that to make any
change to the network settings I had to key in my (16 digit) password multiple
times. About 5 times in fact.
Its a laptop. The user has to be able to do things like this.

Noel, tomorrow vinagre 2.27.92 tarball will be released, and it will get
updated into karmic.
That's the point of having development releases, to get things tested,
reported and fixed during the cycle.
IMO there's no need to worry and create patches of things that were
fixed upstream and will sur
this bug is already fixed upstream (since 28th Aug)

again after install vinagre? Because those values are set in gconf
schemas.

I've disabled edit/plugins dialog because right now we just have 1 plugin and I
don't want users to disable it.
For 2.30 i'll rework this dialog.

It *is* installed by default, the issue is that config is stored in a
new gconf key, and it's only visible when you logoff and login again (or
if you restart gconfd, i'm not sure).

Vinagre can not connect to ipv6 addre
Disable remote access in System->Preferences->Remote Desktop. Only
enable it when someone is going to access your desktop.
Alternatively, set a password in that window.
Also, check "You must confirm each access to this machine" checkbox.

Vladimir, go to a terminal and type ifconfig. Find out which interface
is your loopback. In my machine it is "lo". Put that interface in the
vino gconf key.
