I don't have a strong opinion either, but given that scripts would
ignore the warnings and the resulting numeric users are going to face
random, seemingly unrelated issues thanks to the interaction with
systemd, I think I prefer the failure.

I think I found the root cause of this issue. 0003-Link-against-lua-
lpeg.patch tries to fix a linking error related to the function named
luaopen_lpeg(), making nmap use the luaopen_lpeg() in lua-lpeg instead
