least tried a different kernel to see if it resolved the problem, and
that we had to do it for them!

Could this be a problem that is only very partially to do with the
distro, but to do with the PC itself? For example, if the power supply
is being overloaded at times (e.g. a new graphics card has been added
that takes a lot of power), could glitches from the PSU be getting to
