Sorry that I'm unable to provide more information. I have upgrade to new
version of Ubuntu 9.04 and the problem no longer exist. I'm not sure
other get into this problem or not.

brightness windows but never close unless I kill gnome-power-manager

The problem is Java & Cups is not understand together. You can have it
work by specifying the Orientation in every printers in Cups
System -> Printing
For each printer select Job Options tab and specify Orientation to
whatever else instead of "Automatic Rotation".

After some days, I found that is is java problem. I have updated to sun-
java-6u2-ea that it can print perfectly
