I think the problem is bcm43xx-fwcutter should save the firmware in an
other directory, independent from kernel.

also i have used the betadvd of 7.10. then i have install all updates.
i can reproduce it on 4 test-pcs. i can only reproduced it with an
gnome-terminal.
all other tested programm will works fine.
i have installed the same compiz versions like you.

to reproduce start a gnome-terminal with an active compiz und fullscreen the
terminal.
i can reproduce it on all updated gutsy system. (gfxchip: ati, intel or nvidia)

the problem is a "Siemens USB WLAN Adapter 54Mbit". i get the backtrace
by use "lsusb". the full log i will attach to this post. i have use my
old blacklist file for modprobe. p54usb will load und i will test at
next to block it, too. in edgy it is useable. sorry for my bad english
