This happens to me frequently. I am on Ubuntu 12.04 and using nvidia
drivers. It does not occur when I'm watching video -- it last occurred
simply while entering text in VIM (and no video playing).

The same problem has started happening for me since upgrading to Ubuntu
10.04 64-bit from 9.10 64-bit, on both my desktop and laptop. It never
happened before.
It also happens with the ctrl key, and doesn't happen when the ctrl key
or shift key is pressed, but at a random time while typing.

I don't really notice this when switching between workspaces.
