Possibly related. On trying to install Karbon (Kubuntu 18.04.1) I get

Same problem here on plain ubuntu - connects OK but drops out.
Sometimes re-connection is possible, but eventually a reboot is needed

I think it's imortant to note that https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-

that it involves the installation of sytemd. systemd is an alternative
