Ive got back to the karmic kernel that was left over from my upgrade. The problem still persists. Ive run 'ping -i 1 192.168.0.1' and found it drops for ~40 seconds when it does drop. The wifi point hasnt changed in the last 6 hours since upgrading and the laptop is still sitting in the same place.
