Fabio, thank you for your response. I've never been able to reproduce
this weird behavior, neither with Lucid nor Karmic nor Jaunty. I guess
it's best to set the status to "incomplete" or something similar,
because this bug report lacks information.

I didn't update my bios, I use the PhoenixBIOS V3.24 on a Aspire 5680.

That's why I thought it was a hardware problem. I'm absolutely no expert in
GRUB, but I experienced this bug on GRU
I was able to 'solve' this bug by 'wiggling' my build-in Acer Orbicam.
I may be a different bug, but thought that my comment may help someone.

Thanks, krisgesling, that solved my problem. I've blacklisted 'gspca_vc032x'
now.
Although was able to do a normal boot. The bug occurred every now and then.
When I waggled the camera, the boot continued normally.
I guess it's some hardware connection problem.

I guess the webcam was the problem. Actually, I 'fixed' the problem here by
turning the build-in webcam in my notebook. (I think the webcam was not good
connected but I can't disconnect the webcam because it's build-in.)
