Apologies for not updating this ticket. I've been running fedora for the
last few releases. The fedora bug
(https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=714334) has been fixed for
a while now.
Given that it originally occurred on both, hopefully it's just an an
upstream fix that ubuntu will get if
@avejidah, I installed the backports-network package on Oneiric,
rebooted, and could no longer connect at all. I uninstalled it and now I
can connect, again, but I am still having the extreme slowdowns. I am
glad I also have wireless.
Also, I have powered down and disconnected the PC from AC power
output from Eduard Hasenleithner's instructions.
Only one of my devices logged anything when I pressed the volume up
button, so I've only included that one.
It seems to be sending the "keyboard.f9" event, which is inded mapped to
"coffee".

My Canon MP630 printer was working just fine in Ubuntu 11.10 64-bit
until about a week ago. I discovered it had stopped working, yesterday.
I tried to reinstall the printer, but I cannot get it added back. It is
no longer detected by the printer add dialog or even by lsusb.

Ubuntu 11.04 kernel loaded the wrong driver for my NIC. It loads r8169
but it should load r8168. I found the correct driver at the Realtek
Taiwan site, installed it, blacklisted r8169, and now my connection is

Since the update of xserver-xorg-input-evdev version 1:2.6.0-1ubuntu1,
the middle mouse button no longer functions in Natty. I have since
upgraded to version 1:2.6.0-1ubuntu3, but the middle mouse button still
fails to function.
Renate, here is what you need to do to work around the problem. You will
need to know wher hardware device Maverick is installed on, e.g.,
/dev/sda2 - yours may be the same, or it may be different.
Then, when booted into Natty, run command "sudo fsck /dev/sda2" <== Maks
sure to use the correct dev
In reference to ingo's comment, just above, the problem I am having is
completely unrelated to installations of libc packages. It happens most
of the time I restart my Maverick system, whether or not any packages
have been installed or updated.

I am using nVidia "current" proprietary driver, 195.36.24. gnomines is
working perfectly with the same driver in Lucid. Also, it worked fine in
Maverick (and the same video driver) until some update I received about a
week ago.

Ok, I got advice on Ubuntu Forums to use program scrot to get a screenshot
in Maverick. It works, but unfortunately, when I go to the terminal screen
to run scrot, gnomines goes into Pause mode, so that is the screen that the
shot is made of. It will not help to solve the problem.
