Sound playback in audacity is jittery and garbled (chunks of audio are
repeated and others missed) when using pulseaudio via ALSA for playback
in audacity. This makes the application almost entirely unusable.

It seems to me that the correct fix in this case would have been to fix
the x25/x52pro drivers to not advertise BTN_DIGI, since they are not
that sort of device, rather than re-regressing the way tablets are
handled. :(

This seems clear-cut enough; the request is effectively for VteTerminal
to show echoed input in a different style from text written to the ptty.
This would require some changes to VteTerminal in libvte, and some
changes to gnome-terminal to add corresponding preferences.

Ive noticed that your device shows 4 ttys and i will assume that ttyUSB0
is the cdma modem since you say you can connect with wvdial on that tty.
These are the steps I followed to get my modem recognized by
NetworkManager.
The clue here is the line that says:
