Wow, don't know which is sadder...that the age of this problem, or that
it took me this long to finally do a search on this problem.

I have Test4Theory working on other systems (10.04LTS), even better now
that it has a headless option...otherwise there was tweaking to allow
boinc to pop the VM window onto my desktop, and have myself
automatically log in...so it could maybe work if the system rebooted
when I wasn't there.

So, this bug in 12.04LTS Beta won't ever get fixed in 12.04LTSdoes
that mean I should stay at 10.04LTS until 14.04LTS comes out?

Well, I can't really comment on thatbecause I haven't been able to get
12.04 Release to install on such a system. The desktop installer panics right
away, the alternate installer panics on first boot after its done.
Its supposed to be my Windows desktop, but I had envisioned virtualizing
it..
Well, my bug #985622 was reported against 12.04 beta 2.

Public bug reported:
This is not the same issue where close (clicking the x or doing ALT-F4)
doesn't exit. This is where exit appears to exit, but doesn't.
Last night I tried to start boincmgr, and it claimed another instance
was already attached. But, I was sure I had used "Exit BOINC Manager"
I'm running Xubuntu 12.04 beta2.
I saw this problem last night.
7.0.24 is what was installed with Xubuntu, I tried 7.0.25 and the
problem still happens.
I found resizing the window (but not using the maximize) would make the
menu rerender correctly.

But, that wasn't very satisfactory, so I kept lookingeventually
