I read the description of what fwupd does and if it really is just UEFI BIOS
related it won't matter on my older machine I thought and just got rid of it
(apt-get purge). What shall I see: after restart my USB audio device worked out
of the box - seems this issue is not alsa - related at all.

ok, definitely a arecord bug. I patched alsa-utils on my system to
1.0.29 and the issue is gone.

creaeting continously new files in /tmp. This is 100% reproducible for
me on 2 sound h
I am runnig Ubuntu 12.10 and it still does not seem to work. It is minor as I
prefer flac anyway, but even more annoying is that also the 'Genre' tag seems
not to be read. Genre is 'Unknown' for all wma files, which causes quite a mess
in the ordering.
Genre is properly shown in e.g Entagged

just a comment: I know this is a minor issue, but especially younger useres
often choose their OS also by ability to play games, so it happened with my
daughter (5). She loves Ubuntu and its great and easy to use with lots of
educational good games.
One of her favourite is unfortunately SuperTu
ok, now I followed the advice seen somewhere else: givin nouveau a try:
works great for ubuntu 2D and even Alien Arena is working! Good enough
for me so far! I would even more apreciate putting more effort into
nouveau support for ubuntu 3D than fixing this bug!

I have the same mentioned problem with my 8800 GTS . Actually the
problem for me even started with 11.10 after the latest security update.
Hope to get a fix soon. I will also try to play a bit with driver
versions available from nvidida...

Sorry, it seems the sound is working: I guess the real problem is that I
wasn't able to here a sound, when showing a video on myvideo.de with the
adobe flash plugin installed (which still doesnt work). Sorry again for
the confusion.
