Since then, I more or less remember the operations I performed with my laptop
Ubuntu 20.04 install, I think it might be:
- uninstall and purge NVidia proprietary driver
- (re-)install the NVidia proprietary driver
- downgrade then re-upgrade the Linux kernel
and the overheating and fan off proble
Since then, this laptop model ASUS UX533F is supported by Ubuntu 18.04 LTS as
far as I know.
Last time I tried, this parameter had to be added to the Linux kernel command
line:
dis_ucode_ldr
In April 2020, I switched to Ubuntu 20.04 LTS, which works with this
laptop model ASUS UX533F.

The fan is working when booting with the Live-USB I used to install
Ubuntu 20.04
The Linux kernel from the Live-USB is

high without intensive CPU activity. The fan(s) remain **off** under
heavy CPU load and the temperature goes very high.
I don't suspect a material failure since I didn't notice such
overheating issues anym

I wanted to try Ubuntu 19.04 on my new ASUS UX533 laptop, but it
miserably failed right after selecting "Try Ubuntu" in the GRUB menu.
- download the 64-bit PC (AMD64) desktop image and write it on a USB key with dd
- boot the laptop from the USB key
