Getting this bug in saucy when downloading a png file to my Desktop.
nautilus crashes, taking my desktop down with it, and Desktop does not come
back until nautilus is opened manually.

I was not telling you to check whether you have pre-released updates
enabled, I was telling you to enable them and install the kernel update.
Updates are released first in pre-released (proposed-updates) updates
and after a certain period of testing they are sent to recommended
updates.

The kernel might be in the proposed-updates of the mirror you are using as your
repository.
Go to System -> Administration -> Software Sources -> Updates
Tick "Pre-released updates"
click close and click reload
install the update to the kernel
turn off the pre-released updates if you want

What I understood from the original report was that he/she was using a
fresh install of GNOME 2.22.2 on a 64 bit Ubuntu system. This could be
done via terminal through a server install of Ubuntu 7.10 as well, so I
was a little confused about what the original poster was using.

I tried this with two random podcasts that I had on my hard drive.
One of them was ~100 minutes in length and ~80 MB in size, and the other
was ~36 minutes in length and ~40 MB in size. Both of them played and
fast-forwarded just like I expected them to.

Switching to package nvidia-glx from nvidia-glx-new fixed this issue for
me.

originally considered it to be.
Maybe the fstab entries for cdrom should be removed when upgrading hal
or something.
In any case, it is a bug. I think it should be left to developers to

In hardy, the disk-mounter applet in gnome-applets shows me an extra icon named
"CD-ROM 1" when no cd or dvd is mounted in my dvd drive, and shows an extra
icon in the applet when a cd/dvd is mounted, but the "CD-ROM 1" icon still
remains
