reinstalled the standard drivers.
I'm using now again Kernel 2.6.32-22-generic. Can't see any artifacts but the

Yes, the same problem still exists in Ubuntu 9.10. I'm using a Radeon
9800 SE. I have exactly the same problems with screen artifacts. I would
be more than happy to assist in further investigations
