typed blindly into an xterm window don't run and "systemctl suspend ;

I used im-config to change to xim, and it won't change back, even with a
reboot and ibus daemon restart. im-config from the command line attempts
to open files in the current working directory and then exits with an
error when it doesn't find whatever it expects. Not a very well written

requests appear to only take place when evolution starts. Otherwise

I just upgraded from 8.10 to 9.04. Machine has an Nvidia-based Asus
motherboard. As soon as 9.04 started, the CPU fan went to maximum speed
(about 3500 rpm) and has stayed there ever since. The processor is not

I just had something very similar happen on another computer, also an
upgrade from 8.10 to 9.04 done yesterday. The final menu.lst only
referenced older kernels. I think that perhaps the installer first
created a new menu.lst using both 2.6.27-11 and 2.6.28-11, and then
later made a new menu.lst
My fix was to run "dpkg-reconfigure udev" (which recreates
/sbin/udevadm) and then rerun mkinitramfs.

Ubuntu 9.04, upgraded from 8.10:
Installing openjdk-6-jre brings with it a large number of strange (to
me) fonts. I get Korean, Japanese, Bengali, and a few other TTF fonts
installed. I do not use any of those languages.

KDE printer configuration in the system settings prints out several
sentences that cannot be grabbed from the screen, so I cannot paste them
here. Why is that?
