I have been away so I haven't been able to get to this. I removed the
irqbalance package since I didn't need it but this didn't help. The
computer still locks up. So, I have created a USB stick and will see if
Ubuntu 11.04 boots from this or locks up like before.

Update manager reports that there is NOTHING to do.
BTW it is
running the latest desktop now BUT I can't capture the state of the
computer because when it locks up it just stops in the middle of doing
'stuff' and gives no error message.
How do I force a complete re-

When I first tries to boot computer. Computer just locks up
and caps lock key flashes.
I have had to start in previous version. I
ran sudo but update manager said there was nothing to update.
How do I
force and update and re-build ?
