I'm using a Dell Mini 9. Ever since upgrading to Karmic after suspending
and resuming the volume goes back to some default setting and not to
what I had it at before. This is problematic, since I use my netbook to
take notes in class
Isn't there a way to make sure that the notification isn't appearing
outside the visible area of the screen? When I maximize a window on my
monitor with the smaller vertical resolution the windows don't go out of
the visible area, so something must be aware of the true monitor size.

I'm still getting this problem with a fresh install and compiz using a
default configuration, although I did carry over my home directory from
Hardy, so something there could be causing the problem.

I think I may be seeing a similar bug. If I have the gnome-screensaver
process running and I have g-p-m set to turn off the monitor when I
close my laptop lid, when I close the lid and open it again I get the
same issue you have. My bug only occurs when fglrx is installed.

I installed Hardy on the same laptop. At first the problem wasn't here,
but it now seems to have come back. I am using the Ubuntu fglrx package.
The problem also exists in the EnvyNG generated packages.
Is there any kind of system log that I should be looking at that might
clue me in to what's goi
I just tried to install my scanner (Brother DCP-130C) using the brscan2
drivers from Brother's website after installing Hardy and xsane is
giving me the error it gave on previous Ubuntu versions before updating

I also installed the Hardy kernel on Gutsy, but on a Dell E1505 with an
ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 and I still can't suspend or hibernate
successfully with fglrx 8.02.
As an added bonus, it seems that if I close the laptop lid with gnome-
screensaver running and fglrx installed, the Xserver crashes
Clarification:
The Gutsy Octave-forge 2.9 packages do not update the Octave path, so they are
installed but not usable form within Octave until the path is updated manually.

I downgraded to Catalyst 7.11 and the problem is gone. It's clear that
its a problem with the ATI drivers, but it may be worth making sure that
this bug disappears in future versions.

The way around the choppy video is to switch the video player to using
X11 video instead of XVideo. Apparently this is only a problem when
using compiz. X11 is somewhat lower quality in my experience, but it's a
usable workaround for now.

I also now notice that after it fails to suspend it seems to cause a
very large memory leak in Xgl. Xgl ends up using about 60% CPU and very
large amounts of RAM and it definitely starts just after a failed
suspend.

I'm seeing the same problems with an Inspiron E1505. Suspend just stops
either with the screen turned off or with a blank screen and a blinking
cursor. A hard reboot is required in either case. Suspend worked
reasonably reliably on Feisty on this machine. I seem to remember

(on Feisty) was definitely with NetworkManager, not anything else. I'd

I also could not boot after tonights new kernel image. It seems to be a
problem that affects SATA drives. A temporary solution has been to
replace /boot/initrd.img-2.6.20-14-generic with
/boot/initrd.img-2.6.20-14-generic.bak, which essentially undoes the
update.
