I am having a similar problem. mouseemu was never installed onto my
system. I was able to get the keyboard working by reinstalling VMware-
Tools onto my image. But it only works after login. I still have to
use the onscreen keyboard to log in from the login screen. Since this
is a vmware image
I completely uninstalled the package and deleted all the orphaned stuff as
well, reinstalled perl and then Transmission and things do seem to be
working normal. No more error mssgs. Thanks.

For me at least it stopped crashing, it works in Hardy now without any
problems. It must have been fixed along the way. I think, at least for
me, this bug can be closed.

I can confirm that on Intel E6750 platform, GA-P35-DS3 mobo and Gigabyte 8600GT
card the fix by Orange2k works (plus startup-manager of course).
Startup manager did not work by itself, I think it's adding the modules to
initram.
Thanks Orange2k! I've been intimidated by the lack of usplash sin

I can sort of confirm this bug on amd64 - E6750 cpu on GA-P35-DS3 mobo with
Gigabyte NVidia 8600GT. Tried a couple of VGA= options as well as different
/etc/usplash.conf resolutions (from 800x600 to 1280x1024, max for my display),
usually with VGA and usplash.conf synced to the same resolution.
