The same happened to me :-(. I cannot boot now... I had to use live CD

Removing basket or starting it first does not help in my case. Still
both Kontact and Kmail are crashing I use Kmail a lot so this is
very BIG problem for me to not have access to mail. Hope the problem
will be fixed soon.

I only have Kubuntu installed. Also basket was running under edgy, then when I
updated system to feisty, basket was still running. That possibly a conflict
of basket standalone application and basket in Kontact.
