What Xorg driver do you use?
I have the same problem when I use xorg-driver-fglrx. With "vesa" it works
without any errors.

Found that the "sometimes doesn't boot" was caused by my ntfs partition.
Got only two lines in mdadm.conf, one DEVICE and one ARRAY with auto=md at the
end.

ARRAY /dev/md0 level=raid0 num-devices=2

I have the same problem. Sometimes it boots after minutes - sometimes
not.
