I can confirm that v4.14 final works.
Also, I made an obvious blunder in the initial report: I had to disable
*Wayland* after upgrading to 17.10, not Mir. That must've been a
crossover from an alternate universe where Ubuntu went with Mir :)

because bluedevil2(bd2) seems to need blueZ5, bluetooth dont work anymore on
kubuntu. right now there is only blueZ4
the dependency of the new bd2 is just set to bluez, wothout version.

3.13.0-8-lowlatency with bootuption "nothreadirqs" works (i can boot it
up)
mainline lowlatency kernel (with ubuntu standard bootoptions) works too
(but shows many many apparmor errors)
removing the standard boot options on 3.13.0-8-lowlatency (#3) dont work

all other lowletency kernels of the 3.13 series dont boot up on the
optiplex, and EEEPC 1005h. not a single time. they just stop after a few
secounds on boot.
