Tested a new install today (BIOS 1.0.28), and the lastest kernel,
3.2.0-31.50, seems to have resolves this issue.

Btw, I upgraded to the latest BIOS (A02 / 1. 0.28). This seems to have
no effect on this bug (and there is a typo in my last comment - should
be nox2apic)

Tried a release upgrade to 11.04 yesterday (remote) and the machine
never came up after reboot. It could not find the root device.
I got an error message from udevd: inotify_add_watch(6, /dev/dm-1, 10)
failed: no such file or directory
But all the open bugs seemed not to fit
