I have the same problem.
How to reproduce:
invoke-rc.d proftpd restart
1. If proftpd is running it will be not running after this command
2. If proftpd is *not* running, it will be running after this command
Expected result:
1. If proftpd is running, it will be running (again) after this command
Update: I downgraded the broadcom-sta driver to Lucids version
5.10.91.9. It works much better if not perfect.
I had to make two modifications to this version in order to compile it
with 2.6.35-22-generic.
1. linuxver.h: Replace "linux/autoconf.h" with "generated/autoconf.h"
2. Multicast setup:

I don't think this is atheros related. I have the same problems. No
sound at all. But on my system everything looks OK. The intel8x0 driver
is loaded and the devices are shown in alsamixer, amarok, etc. The
playing starts, the channels are not muted, but I don't here anything. I
