I have the same problem in 10.04 using gnome-swallow-applet rather than
i8kmon. Basically, applications take longer to load than 10 seconds when
you log in due to system load as the GUI is starting up.
A workaround is to right-click on the applet and select "reconfigure"
every time you log in, but
This no longer affects me on Ubuntu 10.04, although I am getting bug
#44255 instead (gnome-swallow-applet just doesn't swallow anything in
its timeout period).

@Jamie I agree that this is not a security bug in the traditional sense.
However, it does amount to something like a social engineering attack,
in the sense that it can easily cause the computer to run without a
firewall due to user inaction.

When I open the preview screen, I get a blank window with no buttons or

On mouseover, I see activity along the top and left edge only.
If I click on the bottom left of the window (where the "Acquire Preview" button
should be) then it does acquire a preview and show it in the win
@Jon: I would be happy to rebuild the package and provide a backtrace.
But I'm not sure which options I need to specify to enable the
appropriate debugging symbols; can you advise?

I can confirm that running "apt-source prboom", editing debian/rules to
add --disable-i386-asm to the ./configure line and running "dpkg-
buildpackage -rfakeroot -uc -b" created a new deb file that seems quite
playable to me.

This works well for me, but annoyingly it fails to swallow the

Even if I am logged into ICQ using the GnomeICU client before going into

My "Connect to server on startup" option (in the Connections tab) is

I have also discovered that if I hold down tablet button 3 or 7, and
press left or right, then the virtual desktop does switch. Which lead me
to try other combinations:
xsetwacom set pad Button3 "core key left"

Hi there,
Sorry for the extremely long delay in my reply.
I'm re-opening this issue as the problem does still persist, and I have
attached my xorg.0.log file as requested.
I should probably also note that I have used the following key settings:
xsetwacom set pad Button1 "core key tab"

I installed with an encrypted RAID-5 / and an unencrypted RAID-1 /boot,
so I should be able to survive the loss of any one disk.
