Why is this a papercut? Dozens of papercuts have already been rejected
because papercuts don't apply to the command-line. Ubuntu shouldn't
trying to make the CLI user friendly - it should be fixing problems that
exist at the GUI level. Please don't apply this patch, it is not solving

I've been very happy with my 8.04 install on a ThinkPad Z60t.
Unfortunately, trying out Karmic revealed that the Mute/VolDown/VolUp
buttons no longer work, although all of the other Fn functions I tried
(Screen brightness, etc) still worked fine.
It is a big let down to have
I agree with this, but I understand why there would be arguments against
it. It can be a confusing tool to use as not all the plugins work well
with each other.
But, it's is an _awesome_ tool which makes the destkop highly
customizable. I install this for everybody I recommend Ubuntu to.
