BIOS screen confirms update.
Though I do find it strange the command posted returns the same bios
version. The date did change, but is older than the posted date on the
Vendor's webpage. (2012 vs 2011) .

After updating the BIOS with `flashrom` to 1.04 (previously 1.00) I
found that 13.10 server still froze at language select, and the liveUSB
locked up at the same place.

Transfering files from MTP device strips file & directory names

When transferring files from my Samsung Galaxy S3 to my computer, all
files and folders were renamed to simple 3 digit numbers. The transfer
should preserve names and relative path structure.
Running Raring Xubuntu, with mtpfs and mtp-tools.

I had a very similar problem, and your solution worked for me. I do autoremove
& autoclean somewhat frequently, and yet when I tried apt-get remove
linux-, I found the following on my system:
