I can confirm this - seems Unity related.
I've got a BenQ G2320HDB monitor, and I have exactly the same issue.
Black bar on laptop screen, can't move windows to the external monitor,
in fact not even mouse clicks work properly..

Since I installed this kernel, the freeze did not occur again.
I tested with Sync to VBlank enabled and disabled - no freeze.
Tests included xset dpms, lid close/open, video playback, flash, ..

I did some testing with the proposed-fix-kernel provided and there was
no freezing at all. I tried setting it manually via console and
automatically, and it did not occur either way.
Will test some more later.

Ok I kept on testing for the bug, and it still occurs, though at a much
lower rate.
I'd say it happens once out of five monitor sleep cycles, whereas before
it happened every time.
If I can do anymore to help, I'd be happy to.

I made the downgrade with the packages (libdrm-intel1, libdrm2 and
libkms1) you suggested and it seems to have fixed the problem.
I tested it a couple of times now and the problem did not occur again.
