encoded Shift-JIS.
In Firefox, Preferences > Content > Fonts & Colors > Advanced is set so
pages can NOT choose their own fonts.
Default fonts are set to FreeSans/Serif
The same substitution turns out to be quite common on webpages in the
less common languages. The easiest way of seeing this is to go to
http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/List_of_Wikipedias and then click on
various languages in the second column to get the language page in its

Bug spotted by accident when comparing letter forms in the fonts Everson
Mono, Dejavu Serif, and Dejavu Sans.
Dejavu Serif font: two Georgian letters, U+10FA & U+10FC, "GEORGIAN
LETTER AIN" and "MODIFIER LETTER GEORGIAN NAR" are swapped.
Dejavu Sans is okay.

I can't tell for certain if these two reports are for the same bug or
not.
This bug (Launchpad #286536) involves improper handling of italicized
text, whereas Bugzilla #10996 involves mishandling of unusual
characters.
Both could be caused by a single bug in PDF font embedding or
subsetting, but

I should add that this bug is causing me real grief, as I am trying to
document what appear to be hitherto-undocumented Georgian letters as the
first step to possibly incorporating them into Unicode.. Lotus Symphony

In Open Office, Insert > Special Character the following characters
are [usually] not displayed correctly in the pick list and are not

I use (or try to use!) right-click in gucharmap quite often to find out

It seems to me that this isn't so much a "bug in Firefox" as it is a problem
with
the security model. Whether it's the security model for Linux in general, the
one
for Ubuntu Linux in particular, or the one for Firefox, I can't say.
