I managed to fix my system by booting a live system, chrooting into my
installation and manually running `update-initramfs -u`. Still, this
should be looked into.

Public bug reported:
I upgraded fom Kubuntu 18.04 to 18.10 by running `do-release-upgrade` in
the terminal. The process completed without any obvious problems. After
rebooting, the system no longer boots, it gets stuck as seen in the
attachment.

I have the same issue, pretty sure it's caused by the i915 driver since
it looks like it hangs when switching video mode (screen goes blank) and
the system boots up in recovery mode just fine (without the video
driver).

Why is this bug invalid? Isn't a hard crash considered a bug?

Public bug reported:
I tried running Ubuntu on a Samsung R60 laptop, but both the livecd and
the installed system kept hanging up while trying to shut down or reboot
- to the point when system wouldn't even respond to alt+sysrq+b. You can
see how it looks like here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=
ramuk: I don't think that's the right answer. I switched from kubuntu to
gentoo some time ago and I'm using grub's savedefault option and it
works. Also, it doesn't seem to be in any way connected to memtest86.

Is it really such a big problem for Ubuntu devs to recompile sudo with
/usr/lib/kde4/bin/ added to this secure_path thingy?
I'm not mocking anyone, it just seems like a 10 minute task... I'm
simply wondering what's keeping the devs from doing it.

Public bug reported:
It's simple as that - after installing kubuntu-grub-splashimages I get a
nice splash image, but also a black selection bar on black(ish)
background. It's still possible to tell which entry is highlighted, but
it's rather difficult.

Ok, I know what it does. It does nothing, since 'default' is set to "0"
and not "saved".

I have (had) exactly the same issue (with XP). Then I noticed that
removing the 'savedefault' line fixes it. What does that line do?
