Try to remove an old kernel (2.6.24-16 for exemple) via Synaptic then
retry upgrading.

Hello. The previous kernel files are not automatically removed for
safety reason. If the new kernel work wrong, you can always use the old
one. So you need to remove old kernels manually using package manager.
It is not a bug in Ubuntu, so I am closing this bug report. Feel free to

This doesn't seem to be an apt problem.
Looking at the error message, the issue seems to be DNS related.
You should make sure you can access the us.archive.ubuntu.com mirror from
firefox and if not check your DNS servers or your ISP dns servers.
