in your .emacs file. I suspect performance considerations might prevent
setting the default value of this variable to `t', though.

Here is a recipe for reproduction, I believe. As the Debian bug
suggests, the problem is really with pylint, which works with python-
mode but not with emacs's built-in python.el. The function causing
trouble is pylint-python-hook in /usr/share/emacs/site-
lisp/pylint/pylint.el.

Actually, I think something funny is still going on here.
I found that when I import photos from my camera (just copying via
nautilus+gphoto; jaunty with latest updates), the thumbnails are
incorrectly rotated. But if I clear .thumbnails/normal, the thumbnails
subsequently generated are correct. M
Clearing the ~/.thumbnails/normal directory fixed the orientation for
me, no gconf changes needed.

For what it's worth... upstream gnubik 2.2 (tarball from gnu.org), when
compiled with the latest versions of libgl1-mesa-dev, libglu1-mesa-dev,
and libgtkglext1-dev in intrepid, gives the same error.

Thinkpad X61s.
Neither the acpi_sleep nor the POST_VIDEO suggestions work for me, but I
can get the backlight back by switching to another VT (e.g. with
Ctrl+Alt+F6) and then back.

I made a new user and found that it does not have this problem. I guess

I think has been fixed in Emacs CVS as of 2007-03-05, but the newest
emacs-snapshot in Ubuntu is older than that. But all you need to do to
use python-send-* in the current emacs-snapshot is to run M-x run-python
first.
