The sec=lanman didn't work for me, however sec=ntlm did.
Apparently Linux 3.8 dropped support for ntlm.

I am trying to update from 12.04 to 12.10 and its will not let me.
Saying it has broken packages. However synaptic does not report any.

I thought my problem was related to this bug, however deleting files did
not fix the Function keys working as if the Fn key was pressed.
I booted into Windows for the first time in a year and it exhibited the
same problem. I concluded that there must be a problem in the BIOS.

It works out of the box on the 32bit ubuntu 9.04 but not on the 64bit
version.
I used cheese which said it could not find the device /dev/video0
