This is a fresh install of Kubuntu 17.10 64bit. No widgets added to panel.
6 apps are pinned to the panel (konsole, thunderbird, firefox, dolphin,
chromium, cantata).
When the panel is frozen, the pinned apps still start when I click on
their icon, and the application launcher works ok. Just the

Thanks for checking this out.
I don't recall doing anything in particular to set LANGUAGE. Perhaps it
is inferred during the installation. This is a fresh install of Kubuntu
16.04.

This problem didn't happen with earlier versions of Kubuntu and Gramps.
I have used Gramps on Kubuntu for many years (about ten years) and I
didn't see this problem before Kubuntu 15.10. So hopefully there is an
elegant way of addressing this issue.

The driver manager in system settings offers 3 graphics drivers;
- nvidia 352 (recommended)
- nvidia 352-updates
- x.org nouveau display driver
I have tried with all three drivers (with a reboot between changes) and the
freeze-on-shutdown symptoms occur with each of the nvidia drivers, but not (s
I have two machines here running Kubuntu 15.10. One has nvidia graphics card
and it has this problem. The other machine has Intel graphics, and has not
exhibited any symptoms of this bug.
The machine with the nvidia graphics is using nvidia driver 352 (recommended in
system settings).

Yes, this error message comes up with every start of gramps.
I reported the bug because it was a fresh install of Kubuntu and gramps
from the repository (and therefore something that any user would get). I
normally use the current stable version of gramps from Sourceforge, and
have now updated to

Fresh install of Kubuntu 15.10 Wily, and gramps (v 4.2.0) installed from
repository. On first (and every) start of gramps, it gives an error
message "Gramps detected an incomplete GTK installation".
$ apt-cache policy gramps

The system admin guys changed some settings on the mail server, and
Thunderbird is working again!
It appears that there must have been some setting on the mail server
that broke things when Thunderbird updated on 21 July. (Sorry, I don't
know what setting was changed.)

Although that Bugzilla item #1184488 indicates that small key size < 1023 bits
is the issue, I have now confirmed that the mail server I am using has 2048 bit

Similar problem here.
Running Kubuntu 15.04 64 bit with Thunderbird, accessing POP mail server. It
was working just fine until the update on 21 July to Thunderbird
1:31.8.0+build1-0ubuntu0.15.04.1. Since then it just reports no messages to
get, but there are messages on the server.
