I am getting the same problem. It happen on my Aspire 5520 laptop when I
went from Hardy Heron (8.04) to Intrepid Ibex (8.10). The computer
stalls at the message (Unable to iterate IDE devices... ) and it won't
shut down.
I am attaching the three log files that were requested from others.
