The workaround suggested in Prx of 2010-02-08 worked for me. Simple fix
seemed to eliminate the problem for all of the files I have examined.

I am still running Hardy [up to date], and both gqcam and cheese still
behave as they did. Given the state of 8.10 and the difficulties that
I've experienced in networking with the liveCD, I'm not up to upgrading
at this time.
Are there any tests you would like me to run?

I just did some testing. Hadn't used ekiga for a long time. First time
thru, it brought up the configuration wizard and froze. Second tim
I believe this camera was running under Gutsy for me. With my uptodate
Hardy, it fails with this

The program 'cheese' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)'.
(Details: serial 47 er
Ekiga now works as it did originally. I don't know which update
corrected the mistake. I didn't know the proper way to update this bug
status.
Hope this is the right thing to do.

System no longer creates /dev/video0 or anything like it.
uname is

I have the same hardware and up to date Edgy. Installed gqcam today; executed
from terminal and got segmentation fault.
ekiga is the only thing that seems to work with the webcam. It wasn't running
when I executed gqcam.

After running [very slowly] for several days bittorrent has crashed
twice while trying to startup.
