The PulseAudio Manager tip worked for me, BUT : don't let the slider go

Same here. I have non-gnome applets running, one for my MGE UPS, and one
for mobile phone sync with synce.
Applet icons sometimes go blank, and the clock stops updating too.
It's really an issue, sometimes I go to bed far too late than expected
because of this stupid clock applet !
