My PC had this issue. It was an Intel chip and a Logitech mouse,
keyboard. Over Christmas, I upgraded my desktop. The issue has gone away
now. I'm still using my Logitech keyboard and an Intel chip.

To resume from a hibernated image, the "/etc/initramfs-
tools/conf.d/resume" file has to be filled with the information of the
swap device also (which is a separate problem on a dapper->edgy upgrade)
as mentioned in 66637. Please try it also and let us know whether it
works.

Which processor and video hardware are you using ? There seems to be a
problem with amd64+nvidia for which a fix seems to have been released
very recently.

Can you show/tell what you get when the console comes back after the freeze ?
Are there too many completions starting with "u" ?
Is it only for the above command you are facing the freeze ?
