I can confirm this is an issue in MythTV 0.21 as well. It seems to be an
instability between audio channel switching with MythTV 0.21 and PVR-XXX
cards.
The script mentioned above works for the directtv.pl script but can be
modified for others. (Such as the external channel binary)

When the latest version of lirc applies it doesn't check for an existing
lircd.conf and replaces it when you select a remote, it should be known
to the user that it is doing this.

I too am seeing this issue, it should also be noted that the FE doesn't
die when this happens, just produces the above crash report. I am using
x86_64 however. Else everything is the same.
