I have same. Interestingly it adds the book anyway, in my case at least.
This seems new as it worked fine about 2 weeks ago. Maybe an upgrade
issue? not that I saw anything that seems to fit. I also tried the PPA
version, it seems the same.

you may find turning off metacity's compiz module resolves this issue
or at least it did for me.
/apps/metacity/general/compositing_manager set to false in gconf.

it should be noted that when you run apt on the command line it does not
do this, just when you run dselect / update with thte method apt.
